Interview: Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams on Marital Collaboration, Levon Helm and Why 'It Was The Music'

Larry and Teresa sat down for an interview with Dean Budnick of Relix Magazine to talk about their marriage, collaboration with Levon Helm, and It Was the Music.

LARRY CAMPBELL: He originally wanted this to be a two-hour art-house film with a limited theme about music and the communication that happens between a musician and a listener. Then as things went on, he realized that there were other aspects to the story he was telling. Like Teresa said, this project showed him what it wanted to be. And it turned into this 10-part series because he ended up going a lot deeper than he thought he was going to go.

For years, multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell was a backing musician for both Levon Helm and Bob Dylan. He has also recorded with Sheryl Crow, BB King, Paul Simon, k.d. lang, Cyndi Lauper and Hot Tuna. Teresa Williams has appeared as a backing vocalist for Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris and Jackson Browne. Recently, the husband-and-wife started writing, recording, and touring together. They are also the subjects of the new TV Documentary series It Was The Music, currently airing on Amazon as well as fans.live, Also, Larry and Teresa share their favourite memories of Levon Helm.

In 2002 he released his first feature-length documentary Stone Reader. He has a new 10 part series It Was The Music which focuses on the lives and careers of Americana music power couple Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams.
